The Bronies

My Little Pony, a franchise aimed directly at little girls ever since the original episodes aired. Each new generation of the series changed the characters and general feel of the show. It wasn't until the newest generation (gen. 4) that Bronies became a big deal and were put into the spot light.
Why was the culture so interesting? Simply put it was a bunch of older boys who loved- or were even obsessed with a little girls TV show. The fandom grew so large that it sparked successful conventions and a sub culture all it's own. Not only is this interesting from an outsiders point of view but also a marketing aspect. Hasbro now had to deal with an older audience that wanted toys geared towards them and that were "show accurate" but the company was faced with the fact that the show and the toys ultimately were supposed to be geared towards little girls. The culture even sparked a documentary that is available on Netflix!
The culture truly reached out to many many other fandoms, leaving practically nothing untouched. The show continues to be a success and the internet is now flooded with songs, art, and references to the show. The show now was watched by both sexes and appreciated by a wide range of ages. Men being a fan of show became the norm.
